Itinerary of your Weekend Getaway in New Orleans
Day 1 - Friday:
Arrival at your hotel, The Troubadour Hotel*. Explore New Orleans on your own tonight. Dinner at leisure (not included).
Day 2 - Saturday:
On your first morning in New Orleans, explore two Uptown districts on foot. Your local guide will meet you at your hotel. Then you’ll take the streetcar to the Garden District, where you’ll visit a typical house that is now owned by the New Orleans Opera Women’s Guild. Then, you will discover the Irish Channel, named in honor of the wave of Irish immigrants who first made their way there in the 1830s. Rest of the day at leisure.
Afternoon optional excursion: Visit the French Quarter & Algiers
You will meet your guide and the rest of your group for your New Orleans tour at 2pm in Jackson Square. You’ll get a short introduction to the French Quarter, then take a walk along the river and take the ferry across the Mississippi River for a walking tour of historic Algiers. The second oldest neighborhood of New Orleans, it was once a plantation and the location of the first local industries. As the area entered the 20th century, Algiers became full of honky-tonks where jazz musicians, including Louis Armstrong, used to play. The neighborhood feels set apart yet is part of the history of New Orleans. You will dive into its history and experience the village feel that its inhabitants love. End your tour at a local spot recommended by your guide and if you like, enjoy a simple dinner at a food truck, and a drink at a local dive bar (dinner and drinks not included).
Day 3 - Sunday:
Check out after breakfast. Say goodbye to your group and guide. Day at leisure. Explore New Orleans on your own.
Morning optional excursion: Street Art & JAMNOLA Museum
Your morning tour will start in the Hotel Troubadour lobby at 8 am. Hop in a van for a two hour street art tour to discover the works of world famous artists as well as talented local ones. What better way to get the feel of the different neighborhoods of the Big Easy? You’ll meet a local street artist to ask all the questions you may have about this particular form of art. Next you visit the JAMNOLA museum and wander through an immersive 12-room exhibit of pure NOLA joy, celebrating the iconic art, music, food and theatrics of the city.
Afternoon optional excursion: Cooking Class & Rum Tasting
Your afternoon tour will start at 12:30 pm. Transfer to a historic area outside of the city for a cooking class with a chef from the local food scene. The chef will teach you the art of making andouille, gumbo, & jambalaya. When you dine on the delicious dishes you’ve prepared, you’ll be rewarded for your hard work! End this lovely Sunday evening with a tour and tasting at a local rum distillery back in New Orleans. The owners will explain the process of rum making and answer all the questions you have.
*Accommodations may vary based on departure date. The final hotel confirmation will be sent to you 15 days before your departure.
