Irish Channel guided tour in New Orleans

Highlights

  • Explore the Irish Channel. Originally known as the home of the working class that worked at the city’s ports and breweries, today it’s a mainly residential neighborhood that once again has a vibrant brewery scene.

  • Visit the Opera Guild Home, a historic house in the beautiful Garden District, built in 1859. You’ll learn about its previous owners' history. Now owned by the New Orleans Opera Women’s Guild, the house has found a new life by providing a home for the supporters of opera, and also as a location for feature films such as Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained.

Itinerary of your New Orleans Tour

Meet your guide and the rest of your group for your New Orleans tour at the hotel Troubadour lobby at 8:30 am. You’ll take the streetcar to the Garden District.

Beautiful homes and gardens line many blocks of this neighborhood, making it famous for its stunning architecture. You are invited to visit a typical house, which today is owned by the Opera Guild.

Then, you’ll discover the Irish Channel, formerly known for its shotgun houses, working-class community, and the ports and breweries where many residents worked. Today, it's best known and loved for its annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade where the neighborhood is filled with good cheer and a lot of green!
